Terms of use
These terms describe the Memento public information site and the responsibilities involved in operating its self-hosted memory software.
Last updated: 19 October 2026
This is not a public memory portal. The website offers information and links to the project. It does not create a hosted account, provide access to a private memory instance or authorize Google Drive access on your behalf.
1. What Memento provides
Memento helps a personal AI assistant retain conversation evidence, derive and retrieve memories, preserve change history and track reactive follow-up markers. Operators install and configure their own instance. Google Drive archival and owner-requested backups are optional.
The source repository and its notices describe the software actually available. These website terms do not grant a separate software license or change the licenses and notices applicable to third-party components.
2. Your responsibilities
You must have permission to collect, import, process and store the conversation records or artifacts you provide. Do not use an installation to access another person’s information or accounts without authorization.
Installation operators are responsible for native CLI logins, Google consent, service-user separation, network access controls, storage, updates, account security and retention. Do not expose the unauthenticated memory API directly to the public internet. The public website is not a substitute for the documented installation safeguards.
3. Memories are not guarantees
Derived memories and model outputs can be incomplete or wrong. An unconfirmed candidate is not an established fact. Inspect original evidence and history before relying on a result, and use the supported correction and refinement tools when appropriate.
Follow-up markers do not constitute autonomous scheduling or a promise that an agent will act. Do not rely on this software as the sole record or notification system for high-stakes obligations.
4. Google and other providers
Optional integrations use accounts and services chosen by the operator. Google Drive, native model providers and hosting or networking providers have their own terms and policies. You must comply with those terms and choose account settings appropriate to the data you process.
Google Drive authorization is granted explicitly through Google, with
the documented drive.file scope. You may revoke it
through your Google account. Revoking permission does not itself erase
archives or backups already created. See the
privacy policy for the data flow and retention
limits.
5. Availability, backups and limits
The website and software are provided as available, without a service-level or uninterrupted-availability commitment. Features, compatibility and the project may change. Maintain independent recovery procedures where necessary.
Backups are owner-requested; there is no automatic database-backup promise. Recovery depends on retained snapshots, available artifacts and access to the relevant storage account. The forget action does not automatically erase raw histories, artifacts or old backups.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, no guarantee is made that the software or website will be error-free, meet a particular purpose or prevent loss of data. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or liabilities that applicable law does not allow to be excluded.
6. Questions and updates
Contact your installation’s operator about its configuration or data. Product and website questions can be raised in the Memento issue tracker. Do not include private records or credentials in public issues.
Changes to these terms will appear here with an updated date. Related information: privacy policy and installation and operating instructions.
